  • 8 large potatoes peeled and sliced

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 14 slices Cheddar cheese

  • 1 cup skim milk

  • 1 pinch salt and pepper to taste

  • Optional garnish: extra grated cheese, fresh thyme leaves


  • Preheat oven to 350°F (~180°C). Grease a casserole dish.
  • Layer the bottom the casserole dish with potatoes. Cover the potatoes with a layer of cheese, followed by a light dusting of flour, salt and pepper. Repeat the layering course of till all the ingredients are used up. Pour milk over your entire casserole. Cover with aluminum foil.
  • Bake within the preheated oven till the potatoes are tender, about 45 minutes. Take away foil and return to oven, bake till cheese is bubbly and starting to brown.
  • Transfer the pan to a cooling rack, and sprinkle with desired topping. Serve warm.
